Hello Everyone:

First of all, thank you for your prayers. Dave has been driving and going into work every day, and has been doing a great job preaching on Sundays. We’ve been enjoying beautiful weather here in central Ohio this spring!

Today we saw the results of his latest MRI, which he had taken last Monday. It appears the tumor has been progressing somewhat, and it is pushing across the midline of his brain, which is causing more swelling. At this point in time he will be increasing his steroid dosage to counteract the swelling, and he will start a different medication called Avastin next week. Avastin works by inhibiting the growth of blood vessels to the tumor, instead of attacking the cancer cells directly. Please pray that this new treatment would be effective and the side effects would be minimal. Dave was hoping to get off all medication, so this was obviously somewhat discouraging news.

On a side note, our “senior” pastor Chuck Smith also started Avastin this week, for lung cancer. May God work miraculously through this treatment in both of their lives!

Once again, thank you for your love and prayers-

Carla Brown

HISTORY OF CALVARY CHAPEL

Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational Christian church which began in 1965 in Costa Mesa, California. Calvary Chapel’s pastor, Chuck Smith became a leading figure in what has become known as the “Jesus Movement.”

It has been estimated that in a two-year period in the mid ’70s, Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa had performed well over eight thousand baptisms. During that same period, the Costa Mesa church was instrumental in 20,000 conversions to the Christian faith. The decadal growth rate had been calculated by church growth experts to be near the ten thousand percent level.

We don’t have all the answers. We do, know that God our Creator has given us a heart to search for Him, and in Him we have completion of everything we lack. God is all-powerful, all knowing, all caring. He desires to reveal himself to His children. God has spoken for centuries, since the beginning of time, reaching out to men and women so that they could find rest, be made complete, and know true joy.

We believe that God has shown Himself through the Bible. The message, in its raw form, is a powerful one of forgiveness, mercy and grace. The Bible was written by 40 different authors over a period of 1500 yrs. They come to the same amazing conclusion that God has a simple plan for the human race. He did design all this with a plan and purpose: that you were created for Gods good pleasure, and that you can enjoy the benefit of all that He has, with Him, in His kingdom. That is where our hearts will finally have the rest they seek. That is where the journey ends. That is really where it all began. His design, and the life that we live, we are to live with the means to that end.

Calvary Chapel Columbus is designed to show you what God has said, and not to clog the path of light with any of it’s own agendas. We are aghast that man has blocked this light and has cast shadows to misrepresent the light. The end result is that much of the world lies in darkness, void of even the knowledge of the light. Our plan is simple, teach the Bible for what it says and not “what we think it says” or what we want it to say. This is implemented by teaching chapter by chapter through the Bible each week, each verse, each line, so that the whole council of God’s Word is being brought out. If you listen each week, in a matter of a few years, we cycle through the entire Bible.

We are crazy enough to believe that if you could understand what was said in the pure form, not just in part, not shaded, not interpreted for you, you would be set free by God’s revealed love. Believe it or not, this does NOT require any money, signing a pledge card, or membership. You are not asked to dress a certain way, live a certain way, or conduct yourself by how others think you should live. It does require an open heart, a willing spirit, and a mind willing to explore all that God will show you.

Being touched by God gives us a sense of revitalization that life is being poured back into us. It is a powerful force that has carried millions of people through the worst of times. Up against the forces of darkness, these people have still managed to persevere, overcome and be more than conquerors. It has even been known to put a smile on a few faces and a song in their hearts. For some strange reason, believers love to sing! We also want to provide a time to lift up the goodness of God and show appreciation for all that He has given back to us. Our response is what is called worship. When we gather together, it is just something we love to do. A natural response to a supernatural God.

Our Sunday services consist of the simplicity of offering those elements. A time to worship and a time to hear God’s word straight from the source, the Bible. Nothing else except we may give you a donut for breakfast or a hamburger on your way out the door.

We are here to help you overcome any inhibitions you may have about “church” for which you may have good reason. We admit that there are many weird things out there that claim they are doing “God’s work”. The Bible tells us to beware of false teachers “who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” So here, on the web, you can have the privacy to sniff and probe at who we are, and get a sense of our little church. You can listen to a sermon on line, or download some of our music, and get a glimpse of what the building is like. But church is a bunch of people, gathered together, and it is not a building, or an intellectual acceptance of some theory about God, or just singing songs… So please consider finding the address and come by and be part of the family.

Many blessings to you on your journey..
